So-called shady characters
Because I’m always referring to this well-informed cheat sheet, a link to make it easier to find.
Captchas help captcha
I just ran across this article in the on-line version of BBC News about Carnegie Mellon’s Captcha (Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart) application, which I have been a fan of—and using—for some time. But it wasn’t until reading the article that I realized that Professor von Ahn's little SPAM-fighter app was a contributor to one of my causes: digitizing historical texts. It also helped the native Guatemalan win a MacArthur Foundation Genius Grant in 2006.

Random & Amusing?
OK, OK, so these posts have so far been neither random nor amusing (well, they're likely never to be amusing; I'm just not that funny of a person. My father's love of the pun - or should I say his skill in delivering one - never quite rubbed off on me; though it did my brother, Mark. He loves to tell a bad joke, if you know what I mean). The fact is, these postings have so far been nothing but silly tests created for no other reason than to make sure that this blogger portal window is positioned and formatted correctly. Maybe I'll start using this blogger page to eventually share my thoughts and ideas about life in Mexico, where I am spending lots of time lately.

Largo en extremo
OK so let's create a very long blog. This blog needs to be long enough that it will force the blog portal window I've created to scroll. The problem is that the new template does not offer this facility nor does it allow the first n characters of the post to appear with some related control to allow the remainder of the post to come into view. I only want to scroll vertically, which should not be a problem if I've done everything correctly. OK so let's create a very long blog. Simple text with font changes and a web address: URL. The post also has no title. Now the remaining problem is likely to be getting the blog data to use our font attribute classes from the main web site. Succeeding here will result in putting the Link, Hover, and Active states in line with the rest of the web site.
